Corrie is the eldest of 4 children. Born in Den Helder he and his parents and his little brother Johan in March 1940 during the bombing of the Rijkswerf and parts of Den Helder had to flee. They ended up in Hoorn. Went in 1948 they returned to Den Helder where Corrie completed his seventh grade. September In 1948 Corrie went to the MULO where he obtained his MULO B diploma in 1952. His father had already emigrated to South Africa in 1951, while the rest of the family followed him in October 1952. Because Corrie wasn't South African, and still isn't, it was hard to get work. So in February 1953 he went a 5 years of training as an electrician, for which he qualified in February 1958. In February 1961 he started at van Leer barrels factories in Springs as a Technical trainee. Then ended up at the drawing office and is there as Chief Design Draughtsman retired in 1996 after 35 years of service. Thanks to Corrie van den Houten. |
