De Denen en de Zweden sluiten vrede.
Karel II Stuart keert vanuit de Republiek naar Engeland terug. Hem wordt -vooral
door Amsterdam- een groot geschenk meegegeven in de hoop op betere
verhoudingen, mogelijk zelfs een afschaffing van de Acte van Navigatie.
De Witt komt steeds meer onder druk de opvolging van Willem III weer
mogelijk te maken, o.a. ook van de kant van diens oom Karel II.
